By Zoila Palma: Team Belize continued its participation in the World Police Games 2026 in the Dominican Republic on Day 3, competing in the 50-metre freestyle swimming event and the 3v3 basketball quarterfinals.
The Belize Police Department’s delegation is representing the country at the international competition, which runs from October 26 to 30, bringing together law enforcement officers from different countries to compete in various sporting disciplines.
Three Belizean athletes competed in the 50-metre freestyle swimming event, which was conducted as a one-swim final.
The Belize Police Department congratulated the swimmers for their courage, determination and willingness to compete in a sport where Belize has limited competitive opportunities. Their participation is also being viewed as an opportunity to gain experience and encourage greater interest in swimming back home.
In 3v3 basketball, Team Belize faced the New York Police Department (NYPD) in the quarterfinals but lost 15–9, ending its campaign in the event. Despite the defeat, the department praised the players for their teamwork, resilience and determination throughout the competition, noting their efforts to represent Belize with pride on the international stage.
Team Belize will now turn its attention to the 10-kilometre run, which is scheduled as its next and final event. The department has encouraged Belizeans to continue supporting the athletes as they complete their participation in the games.
