Road rage in Ladyville – former boyfriend kills new boyfriend after hot pursuit

By Aaron Humes: Police have identified and are searching for the man believed to have pursued and killed Damion Stephenson, also known as Damion Baptist, on Saturday afternoon along the Philip Goldson Highway.

Stephenson, 30, a bus driver from Burrell Boom, Belize District, was traveling in a red Ford Fusion with a woman, headed toward Ladyville, when upon arriving a little after Eagle Jem Estate, she saw her ex-boyfriend’s vehicle coming from the opposite direction, which attempted to collide into her vehicle, sending the Fusion swerving off the road.

The driver of the other vehicle pulled up beside the new boyfriend’s vehicle side door and pointed his firearm in their direction. As a result, Damion sped off. They continued traveling towards Belize City with the grey Wingle pickup without a license plate following them. Upon reaching in front of Tubal Training School, he pulled up beside them again and fired a shot at them, shattering the front passenger’s side glass of the Fusion.

Stephenson then sped off again and overtook some vehicles in front of them. The pursuit continued to Our Lady of the Way Roman Catholic School between Miles 8 and 9 on the Phillip Goldson Highway, when the other driver pulled alongside them again on the passenger side of the Fusion, and then fired once more in their direction. This shot caught Damion in his head and he lost control of the vehicle, running into a lamppost on the left-hand side of the road.

An ambulance was passing at the same time and personnel from said ambulance assisted and transported Damion Stephenson Baptist to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where Damion was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police are now searching for the accused ex-boyfriend/driver and a post-mortem examination of Stephenson has been scheduled. Investigations continue.
