By Aaron Humes: The common-law wife of an employee of the Border Management Agency in San Ignacio Town was surprised at home by armed robbers who demanded the keys to her partner’s Toyota Hilux but could not remove it from their premises on Saturday night.

The woman reported to police that she and her children ages seven and three were at home and she had gone outside to collect the kids’ toys when three men ran into the yard. She recognized one to be dark-skinned of East Indian descent; the second to be Kriol and the third to be Hispanic, in dark clothing and all hooded and masked.

They marched her inside, demanded the keys for the Toyota Hilux parked outside and money, and began searching the house. The Kriol and Hispanic both went outside with the keys while the East Indian kept a gun on her and the children, threatening them not to move or make noise or they would be killed. He then cocked the gun where two bullets fell out of the gun when he did that and he then picked them up.

According to the complainant, the vehicle could not be started as it has a steering wheel lock. The first robber tied her hands and those of her daughters, duct taped her mouth, and again threatened her not to move, and all three left with only the vehicle keys. She said she could hear them talking in Kriol and Spanish respectively, the latter with the hint of a Guatemalan accent.

Police responded and continue to search for the attackers.
