By Zoila Palma: The war involving the United States, Israel and Iran entered its sixth day with no sign of easing, as Iran vowed to escalate its retaliation while U.S. President Donald Trump claimed progress on the battlefield.
Arab states across the Middle East and Israel reported intercepting Iranian missiles and drones on Thursday, Bloomberg reports.
Tehran said it launched drone attacks targeting U.S. forces in Iraq and Kuwait and struck an oil tanker in the Persian Gulf, highlighting the growing risks to shipping in the energy-rich region.
Israel meanwhile reported carrying out a twelfth wave of airstrikes on the Iranian capital, targeting military and intelligence assets.
The strikes followed Israeli attacks on the Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon. At least 1,230 people have died in Iran so far, with dozens more casualties reported elsewhere in the region.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps warned that retaliatory attacks would intensify in the coming days.
Trump struck a similarly defiant tone, saying the United States was “doing very well on the war front,” while the White House said it was close to achieving “complete and total control of Iranian airspace.”
Iran also pledged to respond to the sinking of a warship off the coast of Sri Lanka, reportedly the first time since World War II that a U.S. submarine attacked a surface vessel.
