By Zoila Palma:  Iran has submitted a new proposal aimed at restarting negotiations with the United States, according to Iranian state media and a Pakistani official, in a development that could help break the current deadlock in efforts to end the war, Reuters report.

The Pakistani official, involved in mediation efforts, said the proposal was received late Thursday and has since been forwarded to Washington. While details of the proposal were not disclosed by Iran’s state news agency IRNA or the intermediary, the White House declined to comment but confirmed that negotiations are ongoing.

The move comes against the backdrop of continued instability in global energy markets.

Oil prices, which have remained above $100 per barrel, eased slightly following news of the proposal. However, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz—disrupting roughly 20 percent of global oil and gas supplies—continues to fuel concerns about a broader economic downturn.

Although a ceasefire has been in place since April 8, tensions remain high.

Reports that U.S. President Donald Trump was to be briefed on potential new military strikes had recently pushed oil prices to a four-year high. Iran has reportedly activated its air defenses and warned of a strong response to any renewed attack.
