By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize has been recognized as a leading force in regional agriculture, with Guyana’s Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha describing the country as a key contributor to Caribbean food security.
Addressing the National Agriculture and Trade Show 2026, Mustapha highlighted Belize’s fertile lands, strong farming traditions, and commitment to innovation, noting that the country plays a critical role in advancing the region’s agricultural agenda.
He pointed to Belize’s progress under the regional “25 by 2025 +5” initiative, which aims to reduce the Caribbean’s food import bill and build a more self-reliant food system.
The minister also stressed the importance of collaboration among Caribbean nations, noting that partnerships like the existing agreement between Belize and Guyana are key to expanding production, improving trade, and strengthening food security across the region.
