Belize dries out after a soggy weekend

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize opens the week on a bright note, with warm and relatively dry conditions prevailing for most of today, a welcome turn after the soggy, storm-tossed weekend.

According to the National Meteorological Service, skies will be sunny with a few cloudy spells today, with isolated showers or thunderstorms, though shower activity increases slightly over the south this afternoon. Tonight will be cloudy at times, with a few showers and thunderstorms mainly over the south.

There is relief on the water too. After the weekend’s small craft warning and seas of up to 8 feet, conditions have eased, with easterly winds of 10 to 20 knots, moderate seas, and waves of 4 to 6 feet. Boaters should still keep a weather eye out, but the worst has passed.

Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 89 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) and a low of 81 (27 Celsius). Inland areas will be hot, climbing to 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) and dropping to 73 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 Celsius) and a cooler low of 68 (20 Celsius).

On the tropical front, there is good news. No tropical cyclone formation is expected over the region during the next 48 hours.

Looking ahead to Tuesday and Tuesday night, skies will be cloudy with some showers and thunderstorms mainly over central and southern areas, with showers decreasing somewhat Tuesday night.

Today’s high tides are at 8:22 AM and 10:17 PM, with a low tide at 4:04 PM and another low at 2:50 AM tomorrow. The sun rose at 5:25 AM and will set at 6:31 PM. The forecast was issued by forecaster Derrick Rudon.
