By Zoila Palma: Thousands of Latin American migrants are retracing their steps back to their home countries after facing a closed U.S. border, Miami Herald reports.

Stranded in Mexico due to the Trump administration’s border restrictions, including the shutdown of the CBP One app, many migrants are heading south, with some already crossing into Guatemala, while others struggle to save enough for the journey home.

Around 350,000 migrants are believed to be trapped in Mexico, mostly from Venezuela, Haiti, Colombia, Ecuador, and Cuba.

Many face harsh conditions, including the threat of kidnapping by criminal groups. While some are considering asylum in Mexico, legal hurdles and a lack of documents make it difficult to apply.

Venezuelan migrants, in particular, are finding it difficult to return home due to the lack of passports and the Venezuelan embassy’s refusal to issue safe-conduct letters.

Some are already moving quickly through Guatemala and Honduras, fearing the difficult journey back could soon be taken by many others in a similar situation.
