By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 16-year-old boy has been remanded after being charged with unlawful sexual intercourse involving his 14-year-old girlfriend.
The teenager appeared before the Belize Family Court on Tuesday, October 27, where he was arraigned on a single count of unlawful sexual intercourse.
According to court reports, the boy and the 14-year-old girl were reportedly involved in a romantic relationship.
Despite their reported relationship and the two-year age difference, the teenager was criminally charged. Under Belizean law, the age of sexual consent is 16.
Bail was denied, and the boy was remanded to the New Beginnings Youth Development Center at Mile 21 on the George Price Highway.
He is scheduled to return to court in December 2026.
The identities of both minors are being withheld for their protection.
