By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have formally arrested and charged two persons, including a 16-year-old minor, in connection with the murder of 19-year-old Dodrick Salvador Miguel Madrill, who was gunned down in Belize City on Thursday morning.
The accused have been identified as 31-year-old Emerson West, a Belizean boat captain of Belize City, and a 16-year-old boy. Both have been jointly charged with murder.
Madrill was fatally shot on October 29 while walking along Freedom Street shortly after 7:20 a.m. According to police, a vehicle approached him before a gunman exited and fired several shots, killing him.
During Thursday’s police briefing, Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith confirmed that investigators had identified a vehicle believed to have been involved in the murder and were seeking two persons of interest.
The arrests represent a significant development in the investigation, which comes amid a series of deadly shootings across Belize.
As previously reported by Breaking Belize News, Madrill’s murder preceded Friday’s quadruple homicide along the Coastal Plain Highway, where four men, including two who had previously faced firearm charges alongside Madrill, were killed.
Police have been investigating possible connections between the killings, although no definitive link or motive has been established.
West and the minor are expected to face court proceedings in connection with the murder charge.
