By Zoila Palma: As Belize approaches the general elections on March 12, 2025, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has unveiled a series of bold healthcare commitments aimed at unseating the John Briceno-led People’s United Party (PUP) administration.
The UDP’s manifesto includes specific plans to upgrade and expand healthcare services across the nation, with a focus on improving the quality of care for Belizeans.
In a bid to strengthen Belize’s healthcare system, the UDP has pledged to make significant investments in regional hospitals, ensuring that essential medical equipment and specialists are available to meet the needs of the population.
Key promises include to modernize all existing regional hospitals, including the installation of crucial medical equipment such as CT Scan machines, dialysis machines, and chemotherapy units. Additionally, the party aims to ensure better medication and supplies are available, enhancing the overall healthcare experience for Belizeans.
The UDP also promises to ensure that all regional hospitals have a dedicated team of specialists. This would include pediatricians, gynecologists, and radiologists, significantly improving the quality and scope of healthcare services available to residents outside of the capital.
And, to address the shortage of medical professionals, the UDP has committed to increasing the number of scholarships for individuals working in the healthcare sector. By expanding educational opportunities for future specialists, the party aims to improve the overall quality of care provided to Belizeans.
With the March 12 election fast approaching, the UDP is positioning itself as the party of change, pledging to rectify the shortcomings of the current PUP administration.
