UDP appoints Cayo Central Standard Bearer Mark O’Brien as Senator

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Over the weekend, the United Democratic Party (UDP) held 2 meetings, 1 of them was a National Party Council meeting led by Leader of the Opposition, Shyne Barrow.

During this meeting, the UDP decided to replace Belize Rural Central Standard Bearer Beverly Williams as the opposition’s Senator.

Cayo Central Standard Bearer, Mark O’Brien was appointed the Opposition’s Senator.

“I write to you on this occasion under the Belize Constitution to advise Her Excellency to declare the seat of Senator Beverly Williams vacant.

I hereby nominate Mr. Mark O’Brien to fill the seat left vacant by Beverly Williams,” Barrow wrote to Belize’s Governor General Froyla Tzalam.

The UDP also appointed Franklin Polonio and Shary Medina as Temporary Senators.

There is mounting speculation that Williams may have been replaced because she attended another UDP meeting with the Caucus for Change that includes Patrick Faber and John Saldivar.
