Ministry of Agriculture breaks ground for new sheep barn at Yo Creek Agriculture Station

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On May 9, 2024, Taiwan Ambassador to Belize Lily Li-Wen Hsu and Minister of Agriculture Jose Abelardo Mai attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new sheep barn at the Yo Creek Agriculture Station in the Orange Walk District.

Attendees also included Servulo Baeza, CEO of the Ministry of Agriculture and Robert Pan, Chief of Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize.

The barn is a key component of the extension of “Breeding Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project (Sheep and Goat Project Phase II)” co-implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise and the Taiwan Technical Mission in Belize.

The project is expected to benefit farmers in the northern part of the country with more convenient access to good quality breeding sheep and goat as well as technical support.

The main objective of the Project is to further strengthen Belize’s sheep and goat industry and enhance market penetration to improve farmers’ livelihood.

“Taiwan will continue to work with the Government of Belize to promote the country’s agricultural development and advance the welfare of Belizean people,” the Taiwan Embassy noted.
