By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belizeans should keep the umbrellas close today, as a tropical wave affects the country, bringing widespread showers, periods of rain, and rough conditions out at sea.
According to the National Meteorological Service, skies will be mostly cloudy today and cloudy at times tonight. Some showers, a few thunderstorms, and periods of rain could likely continue over most areas today, with a decrease expected tonight, except for the south, where a few showers and isolated thunderstorms could linger.
Boaters should take special note. Winds will blow from the east at 10 to 20 knots and gusty, with moderate to rough seas and waves of 5 to 7 feet, so small craft operators should exercise real caution on the water today.
Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 87 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) and a low of 80 (27 Celsius). Inland areas will be warmer, climbing to 91 degrees Fahrenheit (33 Celsius) and dropping to 74 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius) and a cooler low of 68 (20 Celsius).
On the tropical front, there is reassuring news. Despite the wave, no tropical cyclone formation is expected over the region during the next 48 hours.
Looking ahead to Sunday and Sunday night, skies will be cloudy at times with generally isolated showers or thunderstorms expected, a welcome improvement for the second half of the weekend.
Today’s high tides are at 6:17 AM and 8:44 PM, with a low tide at 2:15 PM and another low at 12:54 AM tomorrow. The sun sets this evening at 6:31 PM and rises tomorrow at 5:25 AM. The forecast was issued by forecaster Tareek Matthews.
