By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belizeans should keep an umbrella close by today as an approaching tropical wave brings increased chances of showers and thunderstorms across the country.
According to the National Meteorological Service, moist and unstable conditions are developing over Belize, leading to mostly cloudy skies and a higher likelihood of rainfall throughout the day.
Forecasters say a few showers and thunderstorms are expected nationwide, with northern and coastal areas likely to see the most activity.
The weather system has also prompted a Strong Thunderstorm Watch, with officials warning that some storms could produce heavy rainfall, intense lightning, and strong damaging winds.
Residents are being encouraged to monitor weather updates and know where to seek shelter if severe weather develops in their area.
Temperatures will remain warm despite the increased cloud cover, reaching highs of 88 degrees along the coast and 93 degrees inland.
Tonight, shower activity is expected to decrease in most areas, although southern Belize could continue to experience a few showers and thunderstorms into the overnight hours.
The good news is that no tropical cyclone formation is expected in the region during the next 48 hours.
Still, today’s weather could create localized flooding in low-lying areas if heavy downpours develop, particularly in northern and coastal communities.
Belizeans planning Father’s Day activities outdoors may want to keep an eye on the sky as conditions remain unsettled throughout much of the day.
