By Aaron Humes: A Big Falls man has been detained after allegedly stabbing a fellow villager on Christmas Eve while he was working at the village park.
Police say Roquilino Baltazar and others were installing new benches in the park when a man of Maya descent, who was seen drinking, came in and sat on one of the benches, which had not yet set in the ground.
The man then allegedly walked behind Baltazar, who felt a sharp pain in his lower back and began to bleed. Fellow villagers tried to subdue the attacker and he too sustained some injuries. Both men are in treatment at the Punta Gorda Town Hospital.
The attacker is presently detained and police investigations continue.
