By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police and social workers intervened after two girls reportedly accused their mother of physically assaulting them at their home shortly after midnight on Monday, July 13, 2026.
The older girl, aged 15, reported that her mother became angry after asking about the whereabouts of the children’s stepfather.
The mother allegedly struck the teenager with her hands and then hit her on the knee with a stick. When the teenager attempted to prevent her mother from striking her seven-year-old sister, the mother allegedly bit both girls on their hands.
Statements and interviews were conducted in the presence of a social worker. Police later held a mediation session involving the parents, the children, a social worker and a police corporal.
The identities of the children have been withheld because they are minors.
