Press Release
The Office of the Prime Minister and Investment, through its Investment Policy and Compliance Unit (IPCU), has joined the Taiwan Technical Mission and the National Women’s Commission at the Orange Walk Technical High School for the launch of a two-week animation bootcamp for women and girls in Orange Walk Town which runs from August 8th to 16th.
This animation bootcamp has already been offered in Corozal Town (July 17th-July 26th) and Belize City (July 5th-August 5th). It entails six training sessions: three in-person classes and three online. The animation bootcamp aims to provide opportunities for women to learn basic digital skills in graphic art and animation, enabling the participants to produce short, animated movies. The demand for these skills utilized in the Orange Economy is increasing across various industries, including film, television, gaming, advertising, and marketing.
After these training sessions, female students will be incentivized to create an original story and script to animate and place on the internet. The objective is to produce content which can eventually have copyrights as original creations for further development.
Present at the launch were Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño; H.E. Ms. Lily Li-Wen Hsu, Ambassador of Taiwan to Belize; Mrs. Narda Garcia, Chief Executive Officer in the Office of the Prime Minister and Investment; Mrs. Masako Kurokawa, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Belize; Mrs. Thea Garcia-Ramirez, President of National Women’s Commission, His Worship Ladrick Shephard, Mayor of Orange Walk Town; Mr. Gian Vasquez, of the Competitiveness, Technology and Innovation Division, Inter-American Development Bank; Mr. Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit, Ministry of Investment; Mrs. Alexia Perez, Foreign Service Officer, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade; Mr. Roberto Pan, Chief of Taiwan Technical Mission; and Mr. Jeavon Sanker, Animation Instructor, Imageries Animation Studios.
The Investment Policy and Compliance Unit, under the Office of the Prime Minister and Investment, would like to thank all its partners for the successful implementation of all three Animation Bootcamps in Corozal Town, Belize City and Orange Walk Town. The Government of Belize, through this and other training, is stimulating economic activity and creating opportunities in the Orange Economy.
