By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): After a day of flooding rains, Belize gets a welcome break today, with mostly sunny skies returning. But while conditions improve on land, the danger has shifted to the sea, where a small craft warning is now in effect.
According to the National Meteorological Service, relatively moist and slightly unstable conditions prevail. Skies will be sunny with cloudy spells today and partly cloudy tonight, with generally isolated showers or isolated thunderstorms expected, a marked improvement from the downpours that flooded parts of the George Price Highway and the Western Regional Hospital compound.
The story is very different offshore. A small craft warning has been issued, with strong gusty winds and rough seas expected, especially near heavy showers. Winds will blow from the east to northeast at 15 to 25 knots and gusty, with rough seas and waves of 6 to 8 feet. Operators of small crafts are advised to seek and remain in safe harbor until conditions improve.
Temperatures along the coast will reach a high of 88 degrees Fahrenheit (31 Celsius) and a low of 82 (28 Celsius). Inland areas will be hot, climbing to 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 Celsius) and dropping to 74 (23 Celsius). In the hills, expect a high of 81 degrees Fahrenheit (27 Celsius) and a cooler low of 68 (20 Celsius).
On the tropical front, there is reassuring news. No tropical cyclone formation is expected over the region during the next 48 hours.
Looking ahead to Monday and Monday night, cloudy spells with a few showers and thunderstorms are expected mainly over the south, with activity generally isolated elsewhere.
Today’s high tides are at 7:20 AM and 9:34 PM, with a low tide at 3:12 PM and another low at 1:52 AM tomorrow. The sun sets this evening at 6:31 PM and rises tomorrow at 5:25 AM. The forecast was issued by forecaster Crystal Rosalez.
