The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) wishes to advise the public that the Hummingbird Highway is temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic at Mile 17.5 due to the appearance of a roadway sinkhole that requires immediate emergency repairs.
Following an initial engineering assessment conducted by MIDH technical personnel, it has been determined that the underlying corrugated metal culvert remains structurally intact and functional. The damage is confined primarily to the pavement structure and embankment material above the culvert, which has resulted in a localized collapse of the roadway surface.
In the interest of public safety, the affected section of the highway has been closed while emergency stabilization and repair works are undertaken. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and utilize alternative routes where available. Members of the public are reminded to comply with all traffic control measures and instructions from onsite personnel.
The Ministry understands the inconvenience this closure may cause and assures the public that every effort is being made to expedite the repairs while maintaining the highest standards of safety.
Further updates, including notification of the reopening of the highway to vehicular traffic, will be communicated as soon as additional information becomes available.
The Ministry thanks the public for its patience, understanding, and cooperation during this emergency response.
