By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two men accused of carrying out an armed home invasion at a Belize City taco vendor’s residence, during which more than $2,500 worth of jewelry was stolen, made their first court appearance together this week.
Shawn Garbutt, 18, and Celestino Anwar Zetina, 24, appeared before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 2, following their separate arraignments in September and October.
Both men are charged with aggravated burglary in connection with the September home invasion at the Castle Street residence of tacos vendor.
According to police, the woman was leaving her home around 5:50 a.m. when two masked men, allegedly armed with firearms, confronted her. One reportedly grabbed her hand and forced her back inside the house while demanding money.
The intruders allegedly stole a jewelry box containing several gold chains, rings and other jewelry valued at approximately $2,525 before fleeing the area.
Police investigations led to the arrest of Garbutt, who was first charged and remanded in September. Zetina was subsequently charged on October 9.
Both men previously pleaded not guilty and remain on remand at the Belize Central Prison, as bail was not granted at the Magistrate’s Court because of the alleged use of firearms.
Their case was adjourned until December 2, 2026.
The allegations against both men remain unproven.
