Santa Elena Royals eliminate Champions Flames in Cayo Football Association 2023 1st Division Quarterfinals; Western Raiders also qualify for semifinals

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Santa Elena Royals and Western Raiders qualified on Friday to the Semifinals of the Cayo Football Association 2023-24 First Division Opening Season Quarterfinals on Friday at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio.

Santa Elena Royals eliminated the defending champions Flames in a penalty kicks shootout after finishing 4-4 on aggregate. Flames had won the first leg 3-2, but Santa Elena bounced back and won the return 2-1 to force the penalty kicks shootout.

For their part, Western Raiders also qualified for the semifinals dispatching subchampions Bullet Tree 5-4 on aggregate. After an initial 3-3 draw, Western raiders won the second match 2-1 to advance.

The quarterfinals continue on Sunday.

7-Miles are aiming to finish off the Regulataz who they beat 4-3 in the first leg. But the Regulataz are hoping they can overturn the score as the Santa Elea Royals did. The match kicks off at 4:00 pm at the Norman Broaster Stadium.

Cristo Rey are favoured to qualify over Alliance after winning the first match by a comfortable 3-0 score. The final quarterfinal match starts at 6:00 pm.

The admission fee is $5.00.
