By Jose Luis Cruz: On Tuesday night Breaking Belize News broke the story that there was a shooting in Unitedville and that one person was shot. It was later confirmed that the shooting victim, Allen Gognora, more commonly known as ‘Barney’, was killed during the shooting. Police confirm that 43-year-old Allen Gongora, a resident of nearby Ontario village, was the intended target of the shooting and that he died on the spot.
According to police, after Gongora was shot, the shooter ran towards a dark-colored SUV and escaped in the direction of Belmopan. Police responded quickly and an operation was launched to track the vehicle used to escape.
Following a well coordinated effort, police ended up intercepting the suspects near Roaring Creek Village and eight persons, including one (1) female, have been detained. During the operation, two (2) firearms, which were believed to have been used in the murder were recovered.
The shooting occurred in front of a well known drug dealer’s residence in Unitedville, the operators of whom are relatives of Gongora. As a result, Police say they are investigating whether the killing may be linked to drug-related activity in the village.
Police say that forensic analysis is currently being done to confirm whether the two (2) recovered nine-millimeter pistols were used in the shooting.
