By Zoila Palma: Today, Leader of the Opposition Tracy Panton issued a statement saying that the seizure of more than 300 pounds of suspected cannabis in the Corozal District is a “serious reminder that Belize remains vulnerable to the movement of illegal drugs through our communities, particularly in the northern corridor.”
“A seizure of this magnitude raises important questions. Belizeans deserve to know who is behind these operations, whether arrests will follow, what the estimated street value is, and what steps are being taken to dismantle the wider networks facilitating the movement of drugs through our country,” Panton said.
Panton says that drug trafficking threatens community safety, fuels organized crime, endangers our young people, and undermines national security.
“The Opposition will continue to support strong, lawful, and intelligence-driven action against drug trafficking and organized crime. We will continue to demand transparency, accountability, and results,” Panton stated.
Panton says that there must be thorough investigations, prosecutions where warranted, and a clear national strategy to keep our communities safe.
