By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two Hattieville men accused in the double murder of cousins Marvin Cante and Juan Carlos Raymundo remain on remand at the Belize Central Prison after their preliminary inquiry began last week but was adjourned for continuation.
Karl Lindbergh Lindo, 21, of Mile 15 on the Hattieville-Boom Road, and Ronald Steadman Fraser, 20, are charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Cante and Raymundo, whose bodies were found in a shallow grave in the Dalla Bank/American New Site area of Hattieville on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
The preliminary inquiry began on Thursday, May 14, 2026, before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2. However, the matter was adjourned to Wednesday, May 20, 2026, for continuation. Both accused men appeared unrepresented.
Lindo and Fraser had initially been charged along with a third man, Christopher Smith Jr., 21. However, on November 28, 2025, the two murder charges against Smith Jr. were withdrawn following a directive from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The case dates back to Thursday, November 28, 2024, when police received information of an abandoned vehicle at Mile 24 on the George Price Highway. Officers found the vehicle with its engine running and bloodstains on the back right passenger seat.
Police later learned that the vehicle had been rented by Porfirio Argueta to Cante and Raymundo, both taxi drivers from Belmopan, who had not been seen or heard from since Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
Missing person reports were later filed by Cante’s common-law wife and Raymundo’s girlfriend.
Police investigations led to the detention of Lindo on December 10, 2024, followed by the arrest of Christopher Smith Jr. On December 11, police received information about a suspected shallow grave in the American New Site area of Hattieville. The following day, police and Scenes of Crime personnel processed the area and recovered the bodies believed to be those of Cante and Raymundo.
Fraser was later detained on December 17, 2024, and charged with two counts of murder.
A post-mortem examination suggested that both men died on the same day they disappeared, November 27, 2024.
