By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Opposition Leader Tracy Panton is calling for urgent action to stop escalating gun violence in Belize City, accusing government of failing to deliver effective security solutions.
In a statement titled “Mayhem in Our City Streets,” Panton questioned reports that the Minister of National Security and the Commissioner of Police held mediation talks with gang leaders while gunfire continued across the city.
Panton argued that mediation on its own is not enough. She said it must be backed by effective policing, solid investigations and programmes that keep young people from joining gangs.
The Opposition Leader also demanded answers about the promised replacement for the Leadership Intervention Unit (LIU).
She called for decisive leadership, greater accountability and a clear national security strategy to restore public confidence.
