The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has announced the appointment of Hon. Dolores Balderamos Garcia as the new Chairperson of the National AIDS Commission (NAC)/Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM). Her appointment takes effect today, April 30th, 2025. She succeeds the previous Chairperson, Dr. Giovanni Solorzano.
Hon. Balderamos Garcia, who currently serves as Senior Minister of State, is widely recognized for her longstanding contributions to national development, social justice, and public health. Her leadership comes at a critical time in Belize’s continued efforts to reduce new HIV infections and strengthen care and support services.
This appointment marks a return to familiar ground for Hon. Balderamos Garcia, who served as the first Chairperson of the National AIDS Commission from 2000 to 2008. During that time, she was also appointed as Ambassador/Special Envoy for Children, Gender and HIV/AIDS (2003–2008), where she brought a high-energy, passionate approach to advocacy on behalf of vulnerable populations. Her track record of championing equity and rights-based responses to health and social issues reflects the kind of leadership required to meet today’s HIV challenges.
The NAC/CCM welcomes the appointment of Hon. Dolores Balderamos Garcia and looks forward to working closely with her to drive the country’s response to HIV/AIDS forward.
