By Zoila Palma:  On October 1, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise hosted a meeting at the Corozal IVET to discuss preparations for the upcoming 2025/2026 onion crop and to review the results of the 2024/2025 harvest.

The session brought together key stakeholders including the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), Police Department, Customs Department, the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC), and the Supplies Control Unit. Farmers from Corozal, Orange Walk, and the Belize Districts also participated, sharing their insights and concerns.

In addition to crop planning, the meeting addressed the ongoing issue of agricultural contraband, which continues to affect local producers.
