By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A dispute over a $25 debt allegedly turned violent in Bladen Village, Toledo District, leading to an aggravated assault charge.
According to the Belize Police Department, the incident occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026, and was reported the following day at the Bella Vista Police Station by a 19-year-old farmer of Bladen Village.
The farmer told police that a young man, whom he knows to be the son of Francisco Sho, came to his home to collect $25 on Sho’s behalf. The farmer reportedly informed him that he would be able to make the payment on his next payday. The young man left, but about five minutes later, the farmer said Francisco Sho crept into the yard, armed with a machete, and rushed toward him while swinging the weapon. Fearing for his life, the farmer ran from his home as Sho gave chase, still swinging the machete, before he managed to get away.
Police recorded a statement, visited the scene, and requested court action. Francisco Sho, a 40-year-old Belizean labourer of Bladen Village, was subsequently arrested and charged with the crime of aggravated assault. After being cautioned, he chose to remain silent.
As with any criminal matter, Sho is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
