By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Orange Walk police are looking for a man accused of choking an 85 year old businessman and robbing his grocery shop in August Pine Ridge Village.
The elderly man reported that around 10:00am on Monday, November 2, he was alone at his shop and sitting on a chair on the verandah outside.
He said a man he knows walked up and asked for some water. When the shopkeeper got up to get it, the man allegedly grabbed him around the neck with his right arm and strangled him, leaving him in pain and fearing for his life.
The man then reportedly dragged him inside the shop and threw him to the floor. From the ground, the victim watched him go to the counter and search a cash drawer, where he found a purse holding about $1,000 in sales money. The man then ran outside.
The shopkeeper got up and called his daughter and the police. Officers arrived about 30 minutes later and took him to the Northern Regional Hospital, where a doctor certified his injuries as harm.
He told police the attack lasted about five minutes in broad daylight, so he saw the man’s face and body clearly. He has known the man since childhood, as the man once lived in his neighbourhood.
A statement has been recorded and police are looking for the man.
