‘Leadership:’ International Girls in ICT Day celebrated in Belize

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On April 26, 2024, Belize celebrated International Girls in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Day.

This year’s theme for the Girls in ICT day celebrations is “Leadership“, to underscore the critical need for strong female role models in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology hosted a #LEADLikeAGirl event.

Special Envoy for the Development of Families and Children, Rossana Briceno emphasized the importance to lead like a girl since it shines a spotlight on the importance of promoting technology careers and opportunities for women.

“When women are encouraged to pursue such roles, it not only helps to inspire and shape the next generation of leaders but also removes barriers that seek to hinder women’s progress.

Therefore, let us commit to creating a more equitable future by empowering our girls and young women to pursue leadership roles and careers, especially in ICT-related fields,” the Special Envoy said.

The Special Envoy further pledged to expose girls to ICT in Belize by advocating for policies that promote gender equality in STEM education.
