By Zoila Palma: The Maya Leaders of Southern Belize noted that Laguna and San Felipe Village have been identifying the limits of their village lands.

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, the leaders of both villages met at the Laguna Community Center to sign their inter-boundary agreement after completing the auto-delimitation process.

The leaders and community members participated in the signing of the Honorable Words of Respectful Neighbors, cementing their commitment to mutual respect and harmonious living with their neighbors.

The auto-delimitation process is owned and driven by communities committed to harmonizing their village boundaries based on Maya values of truth, honesty, and the maintenance of peace and equilibrium. It is guided by principles of harmony, respect, love, and care for one another, as well as for Loq’laj Ch’ooch, Tzuul, Taq’a. (sacred earth, mountains, and forests).

The Maya people continue to move forward in implementing and complying with the CCJ Consent Order of 2015.
