By Zoila Palma: The Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT) is in St. Kitts and Nevis for the Green Climate Fund’s (GCF) Regional Dialogue for the Caribbean, happening from March 17 to 20.
The forum brings together the GCF Secretariat, governments, National Designated Authorities (NDA), Direct Access Entities (DAE), and key stakeholders to discuss strengthening the Caribbean’s response to climate change and accessing GCF funding.
“As Belize’s National Accredited Entity to the GCF, PACT is working to expand its climate finance portfolio and partnerships—driving more funding to Belize, particularly for our conservation partners,” PACT said.
PACT is focused on fast-tracking two major climate projects aimed at building resilience and disaster risk management including:
Strengthening the Belize National Protected Areas System (BNPAS) to enhance Community Resilience and Reduce Vulnerability to Climate Change
Enhancing Rural Community Climate Resilience in Belize through a Climate Disaster Risk Management Perspective.
These projects could mobilize BZ$40 million for climate resilience in Belize—critical for both mitigation and adaptation efforts!
The PACT team includes Abil Castañeda – Executive Director, Rumile Arana – Director of Operations and Eli Romero – Climate Finance Manager.
PACT expressed pride in the opportunity to represent Belize along with the Ministry of Economic Development, (Belize’s NDA) Development Finance Corporation, and Maya Leaders Alliance.
