International News: Pope Leo XIV calls for stronger Global cooperation to tackle hunger and crises

By Zoila Palma:  Today, Pope Leo XIV warned against a growing fragmentation of the world order and what he described as a crisis in multilateralism during a visit to the headquarters of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome.

The pope called for renewed commitment to international cooperation, saying no single country can overcome today’s global challenges on its own. He expressed concern that while nations are increasingly focused on national security, economic growth, and internal stability, they are neglecting the important connection between those goals and multilateral cooperation.

The Pontiff also said that human dignity is no longer consistently at the center of international action and warned that humanitarian concerns, including the fight against hunger, are slipping down the list of global priorities. He described hunger as one of the world’s most urgent problems, noting that it weakens social cohesion, increases the risk of conflict, and drives forced migration.

The pope praised the World Food Programme for its efforts to combat hunger worldwide and urged governments and people everywhere to strengthen their commitment to the cause.
