By Zoila Palma: Dozens of people have reportedly been placed under observation in eastern Russia following the death of a 28-year-old laboratory technician who worked at the Irkutsk Research Anti-Plague Institute of Siberia, CNN reports.
The woman, identified by local media as Darya Shipilova, died after being diagnosed with pneumonia of unknown origin, prompting authorities to implement precautionary health measures.
Russia’s consumer and infectious disease agency, Rospotrebnadzor, said no microorganisms linked to the woman’s professional duties were detected in samples taken from her.
The agency said the epidemiological situation in the region remained stable, although its head, Anna Popova, traveled to Irkutsk for an emergency meeting of the regional anti-epidemic commission following a suspected case of a particularly dangerous infection.
Authorities have placed the inpatient facility where the woman was treated under quarantine, while some hospital departments have temporarily stopped admitting or discharging patients.
