By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-one-year-old Devaun Garcia, who previously walked free from a murder charge after the prosecution discontinued its case, has been granted $6,000 bail by the High Court in connection with the alleged possession of three live rounds of ammunition.

Garcia appeared before Justice Candace Nanton on Friday, November 6, 2026, represented by attorney David McKoy, who argued that his client deserved bail, particularly since his two co-accused had already been released.

The prosecution raised no objection to bail, and Justice Nanton granted Garcia bail of $6,000, with two sureties of $3,000 each, subject to several conditions.

Garcia must report to the Raccoon Street Police Station every Monday and Friday, observe a curfew between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., surrender his travel documents and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses. He is also prohibited from leaving Belize without permission from the High Court.

The charges stem from an August 2 incident on Caesar Ridge Road in Belize City, where Garcia, along with 19-year-old Esmond Austin and 19-year-old Isani Conorquie, allegedly possessed three live 9mm Aguila rounds without a firearm licence.

According to police, officers responding to reports of an abandoned vehicle near the Yabra Bridge discovered a damaged black Ford Escape. During a search of the vehicle and surrounding area, officers reportedly recovered three live rounds of ammunition.

Police further allege that Garcia attempted to interfere with the investigation by grabbing ammunition from the vehicle and throwing it toward a nearby canal. The ammunition was subsequently recovered, and Garcia was additionally charged with obstruction.

All three men appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on August 3 and were initially remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Garcia has previously faced several serious criminal allegations. In April 2025, he and George Hyde were freed from a murder charge involving the 2021 killing of 18-year-old Eaton Thompson of Mahogany Heights after the prosecution entered a nolle prosequi when its main witness could not be located.

In February 2026, Breaking Belize News reported that Garcia was remanded on firearm and ammunition charges following an incident in which police allegedly used drone surveillance to track a suspect who discarded a loaded 9mm pistol. Garcia had also previously secured bail in connection with an armed robbery allegation involving the BelChina Bridge.

Garcia maintains his innocence in the latest ammunition case, claiming that the bullets were planted by police.

His next scheduled appearance in the Magistrate’s Court is December 9, 2026.
