By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Government of Belize (GOB) employee has been charged in connection with the theft of 43 Lenovo Chromebook laptops valued at over $33,000 from a government facility earlier this year.
Ezbert Felix Ramclam Jr., also known as “Suga”, was arraigned on Tuesday morning in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Coney Drive, where he was charged with a single count of theft. Ramclam, who holds the position of Warehouse Manager, pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was represented by attorney Ronnelk Gonzalez.
According to police, the laptops—each valued at $787.50—were stolen from the Government Bookstore compound on Saint Joseph Street, Belize City, between February 18 and February 28, 2025. The theft was first reported to the Crimes Investigation Branch (CIB) on March 29 by a project coordinator for the Ministry of Education.
A subsequent investigation led police to Orange Walk Town, where on April 2, they recovered three of the stolen devices at the San Lorenzo Housing Site. Five more Chromebooks were later found, bringing the total recovered so far to eight.
The break in the case came after a 59-year-old Orange Walk entrepreneur informed police that “Suga”, whom he identified as a government employee, sold him nine Chromebooks back in February.
Following that report, Ramclam was detained on April 7 and officially charged the following day.
There was no objection to bail, and the Magistrate granted Ramclam bail in the sum of $3,000, which he met. He is scheduled to return to court on June 4, 2025.
Police say the investigation remains active as they continue to trace the remaining missing laptops.
