By Hugh O’Brien: Belizeans woke up on Sunday morning to the news of another minor shot, this time in the Benguche area of the culture capital, Dangriga.
Police report that 16-year-old Isiah Noralez was shot in the abdomen as dawn approached on Sunday.
Noralez was critically injured and was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital for treatment.
The minor died later on Sunday morning while receiving treatment.
Concerns and condolences are pouring in, particularly from residents and activists in Dangriga, following the shooting death of young Noralez in their community.
UDP Caretaker for Dangriga Earth Lopez wrote “Today, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of another young life in Dangriga…deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and loved ones of 16-year-old Isiah Norales”.
Lopez strongly condemned the senseless act of violence saying “Our community deserves better. We cannot allow violence to become the norm or rob our young people of their future.”
