By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police detained five persons, including police officers, after reports of shots being fired on Raccoon Street Extension in Belize City on Sunday night.
According to police information, around 9:10 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, officers received reports of gunshots in the area of Raccoon Street Extension, near Naybaz Store. Personnel from the Crimes Investigation Branch, Precinct Two, responded and conducted searches in the area.
Initial investigations indicate that a Special Patrol Unit team was also conducting patrols nearby when their attention was drawn to a brown GMC Terrain. Several persons were found inside the vehicle and were later escorted to the Fabers Road Police Substation.
Police say two licensed firearms were found among the occupants. While canvassing the area, officers also recovered several expended shells, which are believed to have been fired from one of the licensed firearms.
The scene was processed by a Scenes of Crimes technician. Police also canvassed the area and spoke to several persons, but no useful information was reportedly obtained. No surveillance cameras were found in the immediate area.
Of the three men and two women detained from the vehicle, two of them are police officers.
Police further reported that around 1:25 a.m. on Monday, July 6, police sealed two firearms: a brown and black 9mm Taurus Armas pistol and a black Glock 19 Austria. The firearms were sealed in the presence of the five detained persons. Police say each person was asked to sign the firearm box, but all refused.
