Fire guts small farm house and equipment in Petville

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police in Orange Walk are investigating a suspected case of arson following a report of a farm structure being destroyed by fire in Petville Village, Orange Walk.

Fifty-four-year-old farmer Ricardo Escaraga told police that his 20 by 10-foot plywood house with a zinc roof, located on his farm, was burned sometime between Sunday evening and Tuesday morning.

According to the report, the structure contained several items used for farming, including salt blocks for cattle, plastic drums, herbicides, and irrigation equipment. The fire also affected nearby infrastructure, including a well, water pump, and PVC piping.

The total loss has been estimated at over one thousand dollars, with additional damage to equipment valued significantly higher.

Police processed the scene, and the matter remains under investigation as officials work to determine the cause of the fire.
