By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Financial Intelligence Unit is warning Belizeans to be on alert for fraudulent emails being circulated by scammers pretending to be FIU staff members.
According to a public advisory issued on May 13, the fake emails may include staff names, official titles, logos and signatures designed to make the messages appear legitimate.
The FIU says some of the emails reference loan approvals, financial assistance, banking information and payment requests. Officials stressed that the agency does not approve loans or request sensitive financial information through unsolicited emails.
Members of the public are being urged not to click suspicious links, open attachments or share personal banking details.
The FIU also advised anyone who receives suspicious emails to report them immediately through official FIU channels.
