By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): The Xunantunich Archaeological Reserve is now officially powered by solar energy for the first time since opening nearly three decades ago.

Belize Electricity Limited and the National Institute of Culture and History have commissioned a new solar power system at the historic Maya site, marking a major step toward modernization and sustainability.

The system includes a solar photovoltaic array, inverter and battery storage capable of generating clean energy throughout the day and supplying electricity during nighttime hours.

Officials say the project will support the expansion of digital services, including e-ticketing systems and improved communications, while also enhancing the overall visitor experience at one of Belize’s top tourism destinations.

The initiative is also expected to reduce the site’s environmental impact through the use of renewable energy.
