By Aaron Humes: It’s Cashew Fest time once again this weekend, drawing crowds to the vibrant village of Crooked Tree, where the local community comes together to celebrate the beloved cashew nut and its integral role in their heritage and economy.

The festival, originally known as the Belize District Agriculture Show, has been held in Crooked Tree since 1983, evolving to showcase not only the region’s agricultural wealth but also its rich cultural heritage. The village, one of the first settled areas in Belize, has shifted its economic focus from timber logging to the flourishing cashew industry, which has provided new opportunities for local families.

The festivities, which kick off today, Friday, showcase a feast for the senses with various cashew-infused products, including cashew cakes, jams, and wine, attracting food enthusiasts from across the region.
