By Zoila Palma: Belizeans are paying more for everyday household cleaning products, with the cost of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance increasing by 2.5 percent in August 2026 compared to the same period last year, according to the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).
The increase was driven largely by higher prices for household cleaning and maintenance products, including laundry bar soaps, liquid detergents, soap powders, dishwashing liquids and bleach.
These are among the everyday essentials now adding to household expenses.
The SIB also reported higher costs for domestic and household services, including lawn cutting services, during the month.
The latest figures form part of Belize’s overall 4.4 percent inflation rate recorded in August 2026.
