By Zoila Palma: Consumers in San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town experienced the highest increase in consumer prices among Belize’s municipalities in August 2026, with an inflation rate of 6.4 percent compared to August 2025, according to the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).
The SIB reported that residents in the municipality faced above-average price increases across a range of goods and services. These included passenger transport services, food, rent, medical services, restaurants and café services, as well as recreational services.
Higher costs were also recorded for clothing for both males and females, footwear repair and laundry products. The increases contributed to San Ignacio/Santa Elena recording an inflation rate significantly above the national rate of 4.4 percent for August 2026.
Meanwhile, Punta Gorda Town recorded the lowest inflation rate among the municipalities at 2.7 percent.
Residents there experienced below-average price increases for fuels and lubricants, road passenger transport, rent, laundry products, and domestic and household services.
