Cycling: Irene Baki wins National Women’s Junior Individual Time Trial

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Irene Baki captured the Women’s Junior Individual Time Trial title at the 2025 National Road Championship hosted by the Cycling Federation of Belize on Sunday, June 22, 2025, on the Burrell Boom Road.

Riding for Williams Racing Development (WRD), Baki completed the 12.4-mile course along the Burrell Boom Road in a strong time of 38 minutes and 35 seconds. Her effort not only secured the Junior title but made her the third-fastest female rider overall—trailing only Elite Champion Patricia Chavarria (36:52) and runner-up Paulita Chavarria (38:25) in the day’s women’s rankings.

Finishing in second place in the Junior category was Chelsy Gillett of Imani’s Cycling Team, who crossed the line in 40:16, 1 minute and 41 seconds behind the winner.

With a mindset tuned for competition, Baki can go toe-to-toe with even the most seasoned competitors in the country.
