By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs hosted a two-day technical mission of the Central American Secretariat for Social Integration (SISCA) on October 29 and 30, 2026, as Belize continues its Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Central American Social Integration Council (CIS).
The mission focused on strengthening regional cooperation and identifying opportunities to advance social development priorities across Central America.
The delegation was led by SISCA Secretary General Ana Leticia Aguilar, accompanied by Gabriela Ramírez, Head of the Secretariat’s Multidimensional Poverty, Human Capital Development and Social Protection Unit.
On October 29, Minister Thea Garcia-Ramirez and the delegation held a technical meeting in Belize City to plan SISCA’s work for the remainder of Belize’s presidency, which concludes in December. Ministry representatives also presented the country’s social protection system, core programmes and services, including policies and support for older persons.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured Sister Cecilia’s Home for the Elderly, where they observed the care provided and interacted with staff and residents.
On October 30, Minister Garcia-Ramirez and the SISCA representatives also met with Taiwan’s Ambassador to Belize, Amino C. Y. Chi, during a courtesy luncheon, where they expressed appreciation for Taiwan’s nearly three decades of support to SISCA.
