Belize City man remanded for alleged rape of a child

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Wilson Flores, a 48-year-old resident of Kelly Street, has been remanded to Belize Central Prison after being denied bail for an alleged rape of a child dating back almost five years.

Flores appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 this morning, where he was formally charged with rape of a child. The incident is said to have occurred between September and December 2019, involving a female child under the age of 16.

No plea was taken from Flores due to the nature of the offense, which is being dealt with on indictment. The Senior Magistrate explained that she would not grant bail at this time due to the serious nature and prevalence of the crime. Flores is remanded until June 19, 2024.

According to police reports, the victim, now 13 years old, accompanied by a Social Worker, reported to the police that she had been sexually assaulted by Flores against her will during the specified period while at a relative’s home.

A medical examination conducted on March 29, 2023, confirmed that the child had been carnally known. Flores was subsequently detained and charged on April 22, 2024, following the investigation.
