By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City man is on remand at the Belize Central Prison awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to assaulting his mother with a knife and stealing $9 from her.

Christopher Roger Witzil, 28, an unemployed resident of Hunters Lane, Belize City, appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in Court #8 last Friday, where he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and theft.

Sentencing has been deferred until Thursday, June 11, 2026.

According to police, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, while Witzil’s mother, a 59-year-old woman, was at home preparing food for Mother’s Day with family members.

His mom reported that she had given Witzil food, but he refused it and instead asked her for money. When she refused, he allegedly took her grey purse from her bedroom and searched it, but found no money inside.

Police say Witzil then followed his mother around the house demanding money. When she again refused, he armed himself with a silver knife, pointed it at her face, forcibly searched her pockets, and took $9 — one $5 bill and two $2 bills.

Witzil’s mother reported that the incident caused her to fear for her life. Her daughter later took her to the Gender Based Violence Unit, where she made a formal report and requested court action.

Witzil was arrested on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, 2026, and charged with aggravated assault and theft.

In February, Witzil was arrested after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and several police officers.
