Attorney Orson “OJ” Elrington appears in court for alleged rape case

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Orson “OJ” Elrington, attorney-at-law, made his first appearance at the Belize City Magistrate Court for an alleged rape case dating back to mid-January of this year. Despite a delayed appearance, Elrington, accompanied by his attorneys Senior Counsel Hubert Elrington and Norman Rodriguez, apologized for his lateness before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Cheryl Lynn-Vidal, represented the crown and sought another adjournment, citing the need for additional time for disclosure. Elrington’s case was adjourned to May 30, 2024.

Elrington faces allegations of raping a woman in Belize City on January 12, 2024. His attorneys expressed surprise at the DPP herself handling the case and noted Elrington’s timely notification of his court appearance despite the delay.

Previously granted bail on March 8, 2024, Elrington was offered bail in the sum of $8,000 plus one surety of the same amount or two sureties of $4,000 each. Bail conditions include reporting to the Belama Police Station weekly, surrendering his travel documents, and staying away from the victim. Elrington’s next court appearance is scheduled for May 30, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.
